A Quantitative Approach to Microvariation: Negative Marking in Central Romance

This work presents an exploratory data analysis of the syntactic distribution pre- and postverbal negation (N1 N2) in a corpus gathered from two linguistic atlases, Linguistic Atlas France (ALF) Italo-Swiss (AIS). Metadata concerning N1 N2 across dialects contexts are analyzed with r package Rbrul. Multiple logistic regression allows us to assess how independent variables affect presence/absence N1/N2. Geographical grammatical factors examined; latter concern mainly clause typing negative concord, i.e., co-occurrence clausal word. The atlases first separately eventually merged order strengthen statistical significance. Both geographical prove be significant. In particular, preliminary findings show that is more likely retained sentences containing another word, incidence varies according type co-occurring veridicality has mild effect on but not N1.
